Garage Door Spring Repair
Garage Door Spring Repair Sunnyvale CA
Garage door springs serve as counterbalances and stabilizers for your garage door. Since garage doors are so heavy, they need springs to make lifting them up and closing them easier. Of course, this is with the help of the cable to stabilize the garage door. There are two main types of springs:
Torsion and Extension Springs
The workings of garage doors springs are simple. When garage doors close, their springs expand. When they open, the springs recoil to help hoist the door. There are two major kinds of springs torsion springs and extension springs.
Torsion springs work better with bulkier doors. They dangle overhead. They have long shafts that run through them and have drums on either side that connect to garage door cables.
Extension springs are side-mounted. They run parallel to the overhead garage door track. Typically, lighter garage doors use extension springs. They’re perfect for garage doors that are eight or nine feet wide. Extension springs are generally a walk in the park to handle. Adjusting them is a cinch.
New Spring Installation
Garage door tracks, rollers, and other parts assist the springs with their heavy lifting. However, complications occur when the springs or their connecting components become misaligned or worn.
In many instances, some springs are forced to exert more energy than others. When weaker springs don’t support enough weight they put pressure on the other parts to work harder. This can cause balance issues or wear down worn-out components.
You can fix these issues by calling a certified technician to inspect, restore, or replace your springs.
Did one of your cables snap or break? Broken cables are dangerous. In this case, we recommend to not attempt to move your garage door. Mainly because of the cables, as mentioned before, that balance the garage door. When the balance is off the garage door could go sideways. This, in turn, will cause more damage to the surrounding parts and the structure holding the garage door in place. Replacing garage door cables is a job that needs to be handled by professionals. Call us and we will replace your broken cables.
